Avon, SD is located along State Highway 50 in the Southeastern corner of the state.With a population of 561 (2000 Census).There is a small town feel as soon as you drive down Main Street.
The city has made several recent improvements to the town, the pool has updated and a new pool house was built in 2005.A new field was add to the Softball/Baseball complex in 2006, and in the summer of 2008 new park equipment was purchased and installed by the Chamber and the city installed edging and installed a sand base under all the equipment.

Every third Sunday of each month is a joint service with Trinity Presbyterian Church. The service
alternates between the churches and is always held at 9:30 AM.
Prebyterian Women meets the second Wednesday of each month for Bible study and business
meeting Carol Eggers is the Moderator. Provide 4 programs yearly atthe Tyndall Good Samaritan
Center.

Museum
Avon Historical Museum
In October 1999, the Avon Wesleyan Church donated their former church building and grounds to the Avon Museum.The Avon Historical society to use as the Avon Museum.The Avon Historical Preservation Society started in 1996 when volunteers began collecting and documenting data.
Much time was spent in matting and duplicating photographs that were loaned and donated.All work in the museum is by volunteers and anyone is welcome to join.
The present officers are President - Ludd Bertsch, Vice-President - Laurie Luke, Secretary - Sharon Bertsch, Treasure - Rosalee Sternhagen.Board of Directors Aryls Thompson and Todd Luke.
The Museum has photos and a short historical description of ever house in Avon, Many family histories (written and pictorial), a large display of Fire Department items, Community Bank items, Dr. Greenfield's personal memorabilia, RobertGriffith's World war items, a room of Avon School history items, area Rural School items, and many items from the original Wesleyan Church.
The museum sponsors an Avon History Essay Contest for 8th graders each year.
Museum Hours are Sunday 2-4 during the summer and also by appointments.
