The 4-H club and the Boy's and Girls Club would both like to thank all of you for stopping in Avon and supporting both our clubs.   As we told many of you it may be two groups but it's all for the same kids.   We will use the donations to do many projects at the club this year were we intend to start holding our 4-H club meetings.   One project will be a 6 week program focused on the six pillars of character.

Description of your path as you travel through the City of Avon to our city park and a well disserved rest.   As you come off Hwy 50 you will travel down one of the main road traveled by many of the farmers in Bon Homme County as the travel to the local Farmers Coop Elevator.   We are a rural farming community with small town values and big time heart.

Looking to the South you will see the Home on the Avon Pirate, 4 time State Football Champs, and the track field.   In 2001 the community and school began the athletic complex refurbish and reconstruction project, the majority of the project was completed in 2002.   Funding for the project included 104 Th from the school, 10Th from the Community Bank, 186 Th from the Community in donated supplies, material, and countless hours of community labor.

As you travel up the street you will reach the City Pool and another community project.   In 2003 the pool went through at major renovation including filters, pool deck, and a new wading pool.   In 2004 the efforts included a new pool house and concession stand.   The project cost close to 200 Th the City received a CDBG grant for 75 Th, with the remainder being raised or financed through the city.   The Community committee did an outstanding job, in roughly a year to raise over 55 Th (20Th matching funds from the Community Bank).

You will next see our school a source of much pride for the community.   We can boast the 2008-09 South Dakota Teacher of the Year (Paul Kuhlman).   The school has many accomplishments from outstanding athletes to great achievers in many academic areas.

As you reach the City Park please take notice of our Communities most recent project.   The Chamber of Commerce purchased the major piece of equipment you see.   And the City in turn enclosed the equipment with a cement boarder and installed sand.   The local cement plant and its employees donated much time to this project.   The High School art class updated the paint job on the park equipment this past school year.
